173834 - How an Integrated Approach to Cross Domain Engineering Cuts Losses
Highly competitive Oil & Gas and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects are frequently plagued by significant cost overruns and schedule delays. These issues persist despite the availability of advanced point solutions that promise increased productivity and efficiency. Despite some benefits, the core problems in the fragmented nature of engineering practices, siloed workflows, overdesign and a lack of cohesive systems integration across project lifecycles continue to thrive.
In this session, we take a closer look at the key challenges facing Oil & Gas majors and EPC firms, particularly from the standpoint of engineering workflow inefficiencies. We delve into the root causes of these inefficiencies, focusing on how outdated methodologies, limited data interoperability, and isolated engineering tools contribute to massive losses in both time and resources.
To address these issues, we propose a comprehensive framework that integrates both proprietary and generic solutions. This framework leverages principles of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), enabling seamless interoperability across technologies such as Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Internet of Things (IoT), and first-principles-based engineering models.
By using real-world case studies and conceptual examples, we illustrate how this integrated approach ties together various disparate elements. The result is a more cohesive, data-driven, and robust methodology that helps organizations reduce overheads, accelerate time to market, and design systems that are both resilient and scalable. This holistic strategy not only enhances engineering productivity but also supports long-term business sustainability in a demanding industrial environment.
